NY-AD107: Campaign mailers hit hard in 107th Assembly District election
BETHLEHEM If it was a pro wrestling match, the election to represent the 107th Assembly District would be headlined by the Multimillionaire versus the Lobbyist.
Assemblyman Scott Bendett, the Republican-Conservative candidate, and his opponent Chloe Pierce, the Democratic challenger, are flooding the district with campaign literature thats hitting local mailboxes.
This purplish district includes parts of Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer and Washington counties where enrolled Democrats and independent voters each outnumber Republicans. But only a couple of thousand voters separate the three voting blocks. There are 33,098 Democrats, 28,520 Republicans and 30,647 unaffiliated voters in the 107th Assembly District, according to the state Board of Elections enrollment figures.
The makeup of the districts voter base which includes Bethlehem in Albany County as well as rural areas in Washington County has resulted in slickly packaged campaign materials paid for by their respective campaigns, as well as from their parties state-level political organizations. And while Bendett is an incumbent, he has been in the Assembly for only two years. A former Rensselaer County legislator, Republicans endorsed him to run when the district was redrawn. In 2022, he had no opponents.
