Early voting begins Saturday in New York: Where to cast your ballot in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties
WATERTOWN Voters across New York will be heading to the polls starting this weekend to cast their ballots during the states early voting period, which runs Saturday until Nov. 3.
Michelle R. LaFave, Democratic commissioner for the Jefferson County Board of Elections, is reminding voters that voting early is a safe and effective way for people to cast their ballots.
It is very safe, its very secure, she said. We do everything we can to make sure that peoples votes are counted the way that they want it cast
At the end of the day, we dont care who anybody votes for. I dont care what party or what candidate youre voting for. I just want to make sure that your vote is counted the way that you want it. Its your voice, its your vote, its your say, and we want to make sure and we guarantee that its going to be counted the way that it reads on the ballot.
As an extra protection, LaFave said that elections officials will check the signature on the ballot envelopes to the signature the Board of Elections has on file. If it matches, they will count the vote. However, if it doesnt match, the voter will be reached by the Board of Elections by phone, email or mail for their verification process.
