Toledo City Council president resigns, withdraws from upcoming election

TOLEDO, Ohio — Current Toledo City Council president and candidate Carrie Hartman announced her resignation Monday in a statement to WTOL 11.

Hartman was appointed to Toledo City Council in January 2023, then officially elected by voters later that year. Just a few months after that, she was elected council president.

Along with her resignation from council, Hartman said that she will be withdrawing from the city council election. Hartman was one of 12 candidates in the running for six at-large council seats.

Lucas County Board of Elections deputy director Tim Monaco said that Hartman's name will remain on the ballot, but votes for Hartman will not be counted.
