Woman enters Toledo City Council race as write-in 1 month before election

TOLEDO, Ohio — A new candidate has officially entered the race for Toledo City Council's at-large seats as a write-in.

Emily Desmond posted confirmation from the Lucas County Board of Elections on her campaign Facebook page that she could begin fundraising on Wednesday, about one month out from Election Day and one day after early voting began.

Desmond acknowledged that the odds are not in her favor to win one of the six seats up for grabs as a write-in candidate with little time left to formally campaign.

"Good morning, friends old and new! This campaign is full of heart, but will be an uphill battle. We are running Emily Desmond as a write-in and it’s too late to get her on the ballot. BUT with your help and persistence, we think we can help her get those votes. Those who know Emily know that she always roots for the underdog and this is our chance to uplift her! Share this page, this post, and even if you’re a registered Toledo voter or not, amplifying her messages helps us toward the common goal of bringing empathy back into politics," her campaign posted Tuesday morning.
