Oklahoma GOP chief affirms party support for Trump

WASHINGTON — As Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and other top elected officials remained silent on Saturday regarding Donald Trump's lewd remarks about women, the chairman of the state Republican Party affirmed support for the nominee.

Pam Pollard, the GOP chair, said, “I think the comments of Donald Trump were repugnant. Even though this was 10 years ago there is still no excuse for his behavior. He has asked the nation for forgiveness and said he is a different man than he was that many years ago.

“This election is about the policies that will lead our nation for the next generation. I am confident Mr. Trump will surround himself with leaders such as vice presidential candidate Gov. Mike Pence to form a conservative administration and agency directors that are so closely intertwined with American families and businesses.”

Pollard's comments, sent by email, came after her communications director resigned because she would not withdraw the state party's support for Trump.
