AG responds to request to review Luzerne Co. ballot drop box decision

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry responded Thursday to a request by Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo and State Senator Marty Flynn regarding Crocamo’s decision to not deploy ballot drop boxes in the November election.

Henry cited state election code in her response, saying only the Luzerne County Board of Elections has the authority over ballot drop boxes.

Henry said if the board’s guidance isn’t followed, the board can file what’s called a civil mandamus action, essentially requiring a lower court to enforce it.

Crocamo made the decision last month to no longer use drop boxes due to what she called safety and financial concerns.
