Charleston NAACP branch talks voter strategy ahead of November election

CHARLESTON, S.C (WCBD) — The November election is only three months away and the Charleston branch of the NAACP is focusing on their strategy for increasing voter turnout.

“Our aim is to make sure policies are in place for our people. We need persons who are going to listen and be sensitive to the issues that are important to us. And that’s why we have to make sure we lend our voices and make sure they’re heard. We will fight back that’s for sure,” said Dorothy Jenkins, President of the Charleston Branch of the NAACP.

South Carolina – particularly the Black vote – was critical in getting President Joe Biden elected as the nominee, and eventually president during the last election. The palmetto state is expected to play a significant role in this year’s election as well.
