Candidates certified for Shelby County primary elections

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Election Commission on Monday approved a slate of candidates who qualified to run in county primary races May 5.

Monday’s vote was still subject to approval by both political parties, and withdrawals by any candidates. The vote signifies that the candidate had the required number of signatures to qualify.

The list includes candidates for county mayor — JB Smiley Jr., Melvin Burgess, Harold Collins, Mickell Lowery, Marie Feagins, Heidi Kuhn and Rusty Qualls qualified for the Democratic primary, while Joe Brown and John DeBerry qualified for the Republican ballot.
