Who is Brandon Gill? Texas Rep. petitions to deport Ilhan Omar
A Republican congressman from North Texas has been advocating for the deportation of Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
On Tuesday, February 11, Axios reported that Brandon Gill sent out a fundraising email that included a petition to send the Somali-born politician back to her birth country. Omar came to America as a refugee in the 1990s and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000.
The first-term U.S. Rep. began calling for Omar's deportation last week, claiming she is sympathetic to undocumented Somali immigrants and questioning her loyalty to America. He objected to a video of Omar advising immigrants in her district on how to prepare in case U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted raids.
In his fundraising email, Gill said, "Friend, we should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country. And frankly, America would be a much better place if she were to be sent back to Somalia."
