They voted for a tight border, but did they vote to go broke? In this video, we investigate why Texas border towns that swung hard for Donald Trump are now facing an economic death spiral.
We break down the hard data: a $48.1 BILLION retail industry in the Rio Grande Valley is at risk because the "America First" policies these voters supported are choking off the cross-border trade their towns survive on. From McAllen to Laredo, business owners are realizing that "shutting down the border" means shutting down their own cash flow.
Its a classic case of voting against your own interests. We look at the numbers, the bankruptcies, and the harsh reality settling in for the Texas GOP.

(7,301 posts)Fuck that. I always had the feeling even back in the '80s when I was in my 20s. "Easy Rider' left an impact on me. Seeing those skinheads kill the stars left an impression that was rooted in truth.

(10,218 posts)I lived in Texas most of my life and in south central Texas for the last couple of decades. What a lot of people dont know is that before the Republicans/right wing (reactionaries) started their border hysteria, a LOT OF Mexican nationals would cross the US border not to smuggle drugs, not to take American jobs, but to go shopping. In fact, business used to be so brisk that tour companies would charter busses to take their Mexican clients from the border up to outlet shopping malls in San Antonio and other outlying areas to assist them on their shopping sprees.
Thats largely gone now. Can anyone guess why those shoppers choose not to cross borders and face ICEs humiliation and abuse?
Im sure most progressives and moderates can, but not the dumb-@$$s whove chosen to let right-wing think tanks and highly-paid liars working for right-wing propaganda organs do their thinking for them.
Think about this the next time some fool spouts BS about the Republican Party being the friend of small business.
