East Texas voters to decide on major school and college bond proposals in upcoming May election
TEXAS, USA Voters across the region will weigh several major bond proposals this Saturday, including a $167 million plan from Tyler Junior College aimed at expanding workforce training, student services, and campus safety.
TJC leaders say the proposal comes as enrollment has grown to around 20,000 students annually, increasing demand for updated facilities.
College officials point to ongoing challenges with the aging Pirtle Technology Center, which houses key workforce and STEM programs. Administrators say the building faces both structural and capacity issues, impacting programs considered vital to the local economy.
If approved, the bond would have a modest impact on taxpayers. A homeowner with a property valued at $252,000 would pay about $7 more per month, or roughly $84 annually.
