Texas Democrats seek unity at state convention without Jasmine Crockett

From the Dallas Morning News...

DALLAS — Texas Democrats will gather next week in Corpus Christi, seeking to project unity and build momentum behind state Rep. James Talarico's Senate campaign.

One of the party's most recognizable stars won't be there.

U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Dallas, who lost a hard-fought Senate primary to Talarico in March, told The Dallas Morning News she does not plan to attend the state convention and instead is focusing on helping down-ballot candidates across the country.

Crockett also said she’s not sure whether Democrats, particularly Black voters, have united fully behind Talarico and the rest of the ticket. She said the lack of a Black nominee for major statewide office could dampen enthusiasm among some voters.

“I've not heard a bunch of kumbaya,” she said. “People don't seem to be convinced at this point, but there's a lot of time between now and November.” Asked whether she would actively support Talarico's campaign, Crockett said: “I have no idea. I am more focused on down-ballot races in general.” Crockett’s absence from the convention reflects a lingering divide between her and Talarico.

I voted for Crockett and am disappointed with the sore-loser chip on her shoulder.

I am also disappointed that Colin Allred is being snubbed:
Also missing from the convention lineup is former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred of Dallas, the 2024 Senate nominee and now the party’s candidate for Texas' 33rd Congressional District.

Allred was not invited to the convention. During the primary, he accused Talarico of referring to him as a “mediocre Black man,” a racially charged remark that Talarico said was mischaracterized.

Scudder, the party chairman, said “We did not invite every member of Congress and every congressional candidate to speak at our convention."

"We have limited space, of course," Scudder said, adding that “we would love for Colin Allred to be at our convention, but it's up to him and his team” whether he attends.

Full disclosure - I voted for Crockett have an Allred sign in my front yard.

For us non Texans, just hoping for a win, why do you think the party chairman did this?

One thing in the article is confusing. There is a short point blank sentence that Allred was not invited. However, a bit lower the party chairman says he would love him to attend. So, it seems he is not being given time to speak. That is a difference. Is there a chance they can reach out to him and give him a slot? Not knowing Texas, is it wrong to assume that Allred and Crockett are the most popular AA politicians. After she turned down the convention, couldn't they have asked him?

I don't know how long the convention is and how many people have been asked to speak. I would hope the list is diverse and includes supporters of Crockett.

It does make me think less of Crockett that she turned down the convention.

of unity by our candidates or the Party leadership. Is it any wonder that we have not elected a statewide Democrat in over 30 years. I just cannot understand why primaries become such a blood sport - the idea is to unite, win, and help the people of Texas. It should not be so damn personal.

is that a sore Democrat loser is no different than Donald Trump's sore ass when he isn't a winner .In any election there is going to be a loser and anyone who can't accept that needs to stay off the ballot.

she's going to go elsewhere to help candidates in other states who became her friends during her term in DC.

It's hard enough for Democrats to run in Texas with all the billionaire money stacked against them, but this infighting will not only make it harder to win, it is also a gift with a bow on top for the repubs.

I wonder if people know James asked her if she was running before he put his hat in. And then she came back months later and filed anyway. https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/politics/2026/01/29/542081/talarico-says-crockett-told-him-she-was-looking-at-running-in-2030-before-entering-2026-senate-race/

Granted, Crockett was screwed over by the republicans with redistricting in Texas. Still, she had the choice of how to handle the situation. That's all I'm going to say on that.
