3 Confirmed Dead in Tractor Trailer, Bus Crash on I-64 in York County

YORK COUNTY — Three people were confirmed dead after an early-morning two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and a bus near mile marker 241 on eastbound Interstate 64 in York County, Virginia State Police reported.

Virginia State Police (VSP) said it was called to the scene at approximately 1:38 a.m. Friday, and in a morning press update was reporting multiple fatalities and injuries. The bus had been carrying 22 unrestrained passengers, according to VSP.

Three fatalities have been confirmed, and both drivers and the remaining passengers had various levels of injuries. All were transported to local hospitals in the area.

VSP said motor carrier and crash reconstruction teams have been called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Two lanes are blocked on the eastbound side of I-64 and one lane on the westbound side. VDOT is currently assisting with rerouting and traffic control. VSP said the investigation is fluid, and updates will be provided as they become available.

Some sources are saying that this was a party bus and the truck was carrying beer which is scattered in the roadway.

3. NTSB is sending 10 investigators to conduct a safety investigation

In cooperation with the Virginia State Police, the NTSB is sending 10 investigators to conduct a safety investigation into the Dec. 16 fatal crash on I-64 near Williamsburg, Virginia. NTSB investigators are expected to arrive on scene later today.
