Martin Luther King Jr. events planned for Snohomish County

EVERETT — Opportunities are available Sunday and Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday. Here are some local events planned for the national holiday.

Sunday celebration

On Sunday, the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee will hold a service as part of its annual Greater Everett Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration. The service will be held 3-5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., in Everett. Music and speakers will include a keynote address from former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best.

March and rally

The Heritage Committee’s celebration continues Monday with a march and rally from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It starts at the Everett Memorial Stadium, 3900 Broadway.

As the march finishes at the Carl Gipson Center, attendees will be greeted by music, food, “community resources” and speakers, according to the organization’s website.
