Affordable housing project opens on church property in Seattle's Central District
The 86-unit Good Shepherd House is set to open Wednesday at 1415 22nd Ave. in Seattle's Central District.
The seven-story, 51,000-square-foot affordable housing project was developed through a partnership between the Low Income Housing Institute and the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
It's the first project to take advantage of a 2021 city ordinance that provides development bonuses for affordable housing on property owned by religious organizations. The ordinance allowed for additional height and floor area, enabling an extra 21 units to be built.
The Good Shepherd House has 84 studio apartments for formerly homeless people, a live-in staff unit and a three-bedroom apartment with a separate entrance that will be occupied by the church. There are two elevators, a community room, a rooftop deck, bike parking and a case management office.
