Harrell shares next moves in campaign to boost downtown Seattle

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell on Friday issued an executive order formally establishing the Downtown Activation Team, which has shown results since it stated in early September.

The DAT is a pilot program that includes "scheduled restoration actions" like regular power washings of sidewalks, alley flushings, place-based activations and more frequent welfare checks on people living on the streets.

Since its start, the program has completed nearly 200 restoration actions. Forty-three have been done in Little Saigon since the start there in November.

Touting the results, Harrell said Third Avenue in the Pike-Pine corridor has seen a 27% decrease in violent crime compared with a year ago, a 14% decrease in emergency calls and a 30% decrease in emergency and medical responses compared with last year.
