Lake Stevens garage catches fire with hundreds of batteries inside
Fire crews removed hundreds of batteries Tuesday evening from a Lake Stevens garage after a fire broke out while the owner was inside.
Around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, fire crews responded to reports of an attached garage fire in the 1400 block of 116th Avenue Northeast, according to a Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue social media post. Upon arrival, first responders found an active fire and the houses occupants outside after self-evacuating.

Firefighters established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant and brought the fire under control within 23 minutes, the post said. Crews began overhaul operations to make sure the fire had not spread.
During the overhaul, firefighters discovered hundreds of lithium-ion batteries in the garage. Responders moved the batteries to the driveway to prevent the risk of a secondary battery fire, as damaged lithium-ion batteries are highly volatile, the post said.
