POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. The Mothman Festival is back, drawing thousands of visitors from all over the world to gather on Main Street in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, to celebrate the legendary creature that has captivated imaginations since the infamous 1966 sighting.
The annual event, held every third weekend in September, honors the red eyed, winged figure that has become a lasting symbol of West Virginian folklore. The festival kicks off Saturday and continues through Sunday, offering a packed schedule for all ages.

(4,873 posts)and I have to tell you that I never heard of Mothman--and I'm 77 years old. I know about the Braxton County devil, but there are no movies about that.
I'm glad that WV has figured out a way to get people to spend more money in my state.

(6,345 posts)I never heard of Mothman until I started college. A friend from Parkersburg used to tell Mothman stories in the back of the band bus, late at night, coming home from an away football game. He terrified us!

I was born in Hinton and grew up in Charleston, so maybe it's a regional thing?
