Because elections come at us fast and furious we sometimes forget that we actually elect these politicians to, you know, do stuff.

Washington bureau chief Craig Gilbert recently explored Baldwin's elevation to char of the Senate subcommittee that oversees federal spending on food and farm programs.
It's a big deal, especially when for the first time in a quarter century Wisconsin doesn't have a full committee chair in Congress.
I know how hard farmers and especially dairy farmers work every day (and) the underlying struggles they have faced in recent years, of course exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Baldwin told Gilbert. She added that her new role would create opportunities to do things for Wisconsin agriculture as well as rural communities left behind by the digital economy.
As Gilbert writes: "The appropriations subcommittee that Baldwin, in her ninth year in the Senate, now chairs has a broad domain, representing about $24 billion annually in discretionary spending. It funds farm programs, nutrition programs, food stamps, rural development and agricultural research. It also funds the Food and Drug Administration, which regulates pharmaceuticals and food safety, among other things."...............
