Fitchburg council votes to include referendum question on November ballot

FITCHBURG, Wis. -- The Fitchburg Common Council voted Tuesday to include a referendum question on the November ballot that will ask voters to approve a roughly $3.6 million tax levy increase.

According to a press release- voters will be asked whether or not they support a $3,593,000 increase in the property tax levy going forward to fund:

5 police positions (3 officers, 1 lieutenant, 1 sergeant);
6 firefighters;
3 non-public safety positions (1 Communications Director, 1 HR Generalist, 1 Finance Manager);
Ongoing Police Department facility operating costs;
Improvements to the transit and paratransit systems; and

Other City operating costs (including an increase in wages for part-time firefighters to address growing costs to maintain existing services).
