Fitchburg seeking public input on referendum
FITCHBURG, Wis. -- November 5th will be a vital day in the City of Fitchburg.
The Fitchburg City Council voted Tuesday night to place a referendum question on the November 5th ballot. Voters will be asked whether or not they support a $3,593,000 increase in the property tax levy going forward to fund:
5 police positions (3 officers, 1 lieutenant, 1 sergeant).
6 firefighters
3 non-public safety positions (1 communications director, 1 HR generalist, 1 finance manager)
Ongoing police department facility operating costs
Improvements to the transit and paratransit systems and;
Other city operating costs (including an increase in wages for part-time firefighters to address growing costs to maintain existing services).
"The City of Fitchburg has identified a need for additional funding to increase staffing and invest in services that will meet the increasing needs of our growing community," said Fitchburg Mayor Julia Arata-Fratta.
