All we want is freedom not another prison camp
I know there have been items on overseas media about the appalling situation of refugees on Manus Island on the watch of Immigration Minister Peter (Potato Head) Dutton.
There are ugly, racist elements in the country that think he's doing the right thing, but I'd like to hope they're in the minority. Thinking Australians are horrified by the gratuitous cruelty meted out to these men. It's hard to understand what goes on in what passes for minds in those who support Dutton.
And there are many who'd like to see Australia boycotted as a tourist nation - if you think you'd like to visit Down Under, think about New Zealand instead. It's very beautiful and a great deal more civilised.
"Manus prison has reached a historic landmark. Its a culmination of years of premeditated violence and affliction. For more than 10 days hundreds of refugees have been refusing to leave the prison camp and, as a result, the situation has morphed into a large-scale humanitarian crisis. If things deteriorate further, we will witness a disaster beyond imagination.
"The reality inside Manus prison and the reasons for the refugee resistance are totally different to what is stated in some media and claimed in official public statements. When the refugees engage in discussions, all their dialogues have one thing in common: We wont put up with being incarcerated anymore. We have no energy left to go from this prison to another prison. We havent committed any crime and we cant tolerate prison any longer.
