Malcolm Turnbull delays Parliament amid banking commission push

"Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has taken the unusual step of delaying Parliament for a week, a move Labor and some crossbenchers have described as an “attack on democracy”.

"Labor likened the move as befitting a dictatorship, claiming the government was seeking to avoid a vote on a banking royal commission, amid a possible rebellion from Nationals MPs over the issue while Barnaby Joyce and John Alexander are absent from Parliament.

“I think this is the sort of thing that happens in dictatorship,” Deputy Labor Leader Tanya Plibersek told Sky News."

There are just two thoughts that seem to be occupying Turnbull's brain at this time - one is to hold on to his title of Prime Minister as long as he possibly can, and the other is to please his mates in banking, where he no doubt plans to return once he's finally kicked out of office.

He truly is the most pathetic leader this country's ever had.

1. Turnbull's political instincts have let him down again.

The Senate will be sitting, debating the same sex marriage legislation, but not the House of Representatives, where Turnbull is now in minority government, due to two coalition members who've been found by the High Court to be ineligible due to dual citizenship issues. By-elections will be held in their seats in a couple of weeks.

Labor, the Greens, and Independent Bob Katter will all be in Canberra next week, addressing the issues that Turnbull is trying to run from. Bob Katter says they'll hold a sitting on the lawn of Parliament House if necessary (sadly, they can't convene a formal session, but it's a fun idea.)

The general feeling here, especially from the Left and Independents, is that it's time for an election - Turnbull is a dead man walking.
