any recommendations for surge protection/battery back up for desk top?
I have had an APC for years, replaced battery once but it is a POS, and the on-off button has never worked right.

(7,715 posts)Also have a CyberPower 750 VA UPS with surge protector that I got about 2 years ago via Amazon. No problems at all with it, including after having my office flooded.
the button sticks and you have to use a fingernail to pull it back out. no access from inside to see why it does that. defective. now the battery (which costs as much as new device) is dead again (it HAS been a few years so not mad about that) and making strange noises that I can't shut off any more. time for a new one.

(2,789 posts)I usually get replacements off amazon that fit the APC's I have. I've come to gripp with the fact that no matter what the actual usage of the batts are I'm going to be replacing them every 3 years; give or take. Infact, just recently did a round of replacements as they all began their angry red flashing at 3 years on the dot.
Interestingly, the 3rd party ones I've purchased have a larger capacity than what APC is selling for a fraction of the price. For some reason APC thought it was a good idea to start putting batteries in that don't fill the entire battery compartment a few years back. Instead, they using smaller yield batteries with big rubber spacers attached to the sides. This was 4-5 years ago so I don't know what they are currently up to.

(55,731 posts)I think I got that last one at a battery store in Tucson. it was a while ago and I wasn't buying much on line at the time. LOL - now I buy so much on line, I hardly go to any stores other than the Grocery, Ace, and the feed store.
