what causes "skipping" in an audio stream?

lately the radio station I tend to stream most of the time has had a lot of annoying incidences of the feed going into a short repetitive loop like an old fashioned LP with a bit of a chingerly that you need to lift the tonearm over. about a month ago they did update their player page although it seems to be the same player. not sure if the problem is related or not.

Is it buffering? The Tune in app has these issues quite often. dewsgirl Nov 2019 #1

Network slowness shouldn't cause it to repeat. CloudWatcher Nov 2019 #3

mostly I notice it during Democracy Now! - they mostly play music and I leave it on all day so may not be catching it when it happens with music I am not paying attention to.

Sounds like a bug. TBD if it's on the sending or receiving side of the stream. Network slowness should just cause delays in the stream, never repeats like that.

I'd suggest trying other software to listen to the station (different browser, different app, different computer/phone) and see if the failure changes or disappears.

If it repeats with multiple players/platforms then it'd be time to write to the radio station that they've got a problem.

Good luck!

through the internet/wifi (desk top and/or tablet)

so it would seem to be on their end. I bet it has something to do with whatever they did on the player page.

Yup, I'd be sure and call them and let 'em know it's not working for you ... with multiple devices and ISP's. It's surprising how long it can take for them to hear that it's not working
