Need some suggestions to d/l a Web page, including links.

I am trying to save a Web page from an estate sale. I haven't tried to do anything like this for years, back when Web Whacker was the suggested tool. I Googled for programs to do this and found such an embarrassment of riches I don't know where to start. Just saving the "Web page, complete" gets me all the .jpg files from the page itself, but each pic has a link which gives more info -- but the links are to the original site, not to any d/led files. Is there a way to save this info without d/ling the company's entire Web site, which would be huge ?

I've seen the phrase "Web ripper" come up, but don't know anything about what they are, though the name is certainly suggestive. Any recommendations ? I'm in kind of a hurry because I don't know how much longer this page will be up.

1. I built a webpage using Macromedia. I have no idea what to do but they

had a free trial for a month before i had to pay. That was 16 years ago. Maybe they have tools in there that could help? Good luck.

2. Save Webpage Complete absolutely should work, I just did it with this page

I just saved this page and one of the files saved in the folder was your RollTide icon. The DU and Google icons are also files in it.

If it doesn't then the website might be blocking it from working, in which case I doubt any tool will work. Could always take screenshots in a pinch

3. Oh, sorry misread. Yeah, you'd need something fairly sophisticated

if you want to be able to click links from the page and have it take you to other, locally downloaded files.

The save mechanism would have to be smart enough to follow every link on the page and 'see what's there' and download that as well, and then re-write that link to point at a (saved) file instead of the URL.

Which can get very complex because there could redirects and all kinds of other intermediary steps.

I think to be able to do this you need to copy the whole site basically.

Some of them might be smart enough to let you point at a particular page and grab everything needed to support that page, it's not impossible to do ... try some of the highly rec'd ones.

5. I was able to copy and paste an entire page into MicroSoft Word . . .

I copied an e-bay page for used computers. I was able to capture all the images with links, and the links took me to the linked page, not back to the original.

The page is spread out; I mean, the photos and graphics aren't tightly together, sometimes the text is below the photo where on the page it was next to it, but everything's there and all the links seem to work.

Is this what you were looking to do?


I'm on a Macintosh, and found I was also able to save the page the same way in Text Editor. Don't know if a PC has a similar program but I suspect it will.

7. Interesting option, but I don't have Word for Mac.

9. It may work in any kind of word processing program . . .

On a Windows machine I believe a comparable program to TextEdit is Notepad.

10. It's not possible to do what the OP is asking with Word.

What s/he is asking for is that when you click on a link on the saved page, is not for it take you to a web address. That functionality can be done just by clicking Ctrl-S on a webpage and saving as a 'complete' html page (it's put in a single folder on disk).

What he/she wants is for clicking on that link to take you to another locally saved page.

So, if you clicked a link on the saved page (say, your saved page is at C:/downloads/mywebsite/mywebpage1.html), it wouldn't direct your browser to (for example) https://www.mywebsite/mywebpage2.html (the web url from the original page that's saved in your local copy), it would take you to C:downloads/mywebsite/mywebpage2.html. Another locally saved page (or image or whatnot) ... that was somehow ALSO magically saved when you saved the original page ... just by virtue of the first page having a link to it.

This requires sophisticated software to accomplish
