I can easily see a scenario where European and Asian countries who routinely buy US Treasuries either scale back those purchases significantly or stop buying US Treasuries altogether.

A worse scenario would be some of these countries dumping Treasuries, which is something Russia tried to get China to do back in 2008 during the height of the US financial crisis.
