Teamsters: Seattle-area concrete truck drivers ratify new contract
The strike by Seattle-area concrete delivery truck drivers has ended.
A spokesperson for Teamsters Local 174 wrote in a Sunday text that the contract has been ratified, and that more information will be coming. A spokesperson for the sand-and-gravel companies wrote in an email he heard the contract is "a done deal."
Last month, the Teamsters voted overwhelmingly against the offer by Glacier Northwest, Cadman, Stoneway Concrete and Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel. That vote came a year after the contract with 300-plus drivers expired, leading to a bitter dispute, which included a 145-day work stoppage that shut down large public and private projects across the region.
In April, drivers agreed to return to work as negotiations continued. Work on projects restarted but the threat of another work stoppage hung over the construction industry until the contract was ratified.
