Could AI pen 'Casablanca'? Screenwriters take aim at ChatGPT

By JAKE COYLE yesterday

NEW YORK (AP) — When Greg Brockman, the president and co-founder of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, was recently extolling the capabilities of artificial intelligence, he turned to “Game of Thrones.”

Imagine, he said, if you could use AI to rewrite the ending of that not-so-popular finale. Maybe even put yourself into the show.

“That is what entertainment will look like,” said Brockman.

Not six months since the release of ChatGPT, generative artificial intelligence is already prompting widespread unease throughout Hollywood. Concern over chatbots writing or rewriting scripts is one of the leading reasons TV and film screenwriters took to picket lines earlier this week.

the killer at the Coit?

Or Tarzan. Me and Buster and Johnny could be killing' alligators together.

or Sherlock Homes. Fuck Sherlock. I'll find the goddam clues.

Starwars? Darth, ya got 48 hours to get out'a town.

High Noon. I would be the only townsman who chose to stay. I kill a few of the gang and I GET TO MARRY GRACE KELLY.

Gone With The Wind. No Scarlett. You're too whiney. I wouldn't marry you in the first place.

Thru most of Casablanca, Rick didn’t have his mind made up. At the beginning, we know several things about Rick but there’s plenty more that Rick hadn’t decided.

Challenging.

The HBO show The Last of Us has some structure overlapping with Casablanca.

Each month, AI gets better. I predict by Halloween there will be a strong increase in quality and or breadth of Chat AI.

Christmas will be interesting.

Writers will have to grow up. Many will not be able to compete.

Thanks to world travel and streaming, there’s a lot more for us to watch —— and learn from.

That was about 15 years ago.

Chat AI is in its first major year.

Hubble Telescope is 33 years and 2 weeks since launched. 3 years later, optics were corrected.

Since then Chandra and JWST and more.

AI in writing will kick butt with a little curation.
