McDonald's 'disappointed' as backlash grows in Texas
Since the start of 2025, corporate chains have increasingly become the focus of large-scale boycotts in Texas and beyond, attracting thousands of supporters of the grassroots advocacy group, the People's Union USA. In its latest rallying cry, the organization is calling for a week-long boycott of the fast-food giant McDonald's, starting today.
McDonald's operates more than 43,000 quick-service restaurants worldwide, according to Statista. As of 2023, Texas had the second-highest number of locations in the U.S., with about 1,160 statewide. The company has maintained steady annual growth for nearly two decades.
However, this week's initiative, led by People's Union founder John Schwarz, comes as the company reports a second consecutive quarter of financial decline amid ongoing economic uncertainty. The boycott runs from Tuesday, June 24, to Monday, June 30.
Here's what we know about the boycott and its possible impact.
