Solidarity Alert: REI Co-op Boycott

From AFL-CIO email.

Hi Steven,

Since 2022, workers at 11 REI Co-op stores have unionized, forming the REI Union. For four years, REI management has union-busted and slashed benefits. Workers and management have yet to reach a first contract.

Here’s more from REI Union:

“We know that as workers at REI, our shared passion for the outdoors and spirit of inclusiveness is what keeps our members coming into our stores. Our hard work and expertise has value and deserves respect.

“We’re unionizing because we don’t have the working conditions and benefits we need to do the job we love. Too many of us are struggling to make ends meet, and we shouldn’t have to worry about things like sudden cuts to our hours.

“Together, we can hold REI accountable and demand that it starts acting like a co-op again! Can you sign up for a leafleting action?

“Thank you for your support.”

REI Union workers and REI Co-op members have voted to boycott REI during its 2026 Anniversary Sale, May 15–25, and they are asking community members like you to help.

There’s an event at the REI near you with virtual trainings offered ahead of time. Can you join us?

Thank you for supporting these brave organizers and outdoorspeople!

In solidarity,
