International Dark Sky Week is hailed as a global celebration of the night and a call for less light pollution. In some cities internationally, local governments are trying to find a solution to lighting the night can better serve critical wildlife ecosystems and humans alike. I woke up during a power outage in our little patch of urban sprawl north of Seattle a couple nights ago, and immediately felt the sense of calm and peace that comes with natural darkness. I didn't realize we were participating in International Dark Sky Week, but I'm glad we did.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
