Detroit to Windsor, Toronto rail talks continue: What to know



(Detroit Free Press) A passenger rail connection between Detroit and Windsor that would also link to Toronto has long been a dream of rail and transit advocates.

The process to make that happen is moving forward, although it’s still several years out in the best-case scenario.

And the area near Michigan Central Station, the massive structure overlooking Corktown renovated by Ford Motor Co., could play a key part as a future station, although the building itself isn’t expected to reprise that role.

Peter Anastor, the head of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Office of Rail, said in December at a meeting of the Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers that getting such a service up and running could happen in the 2028 to 2029 time frame. ............(more)
