It is largely a ceremonial unit directly under Putin's command and is actually used for honour guard duties. They have experience in securing installations against assassins and terrorists, not in open-field trench-warfare with artillery and drones.
Russia's strategy for reinforcements is to refill, refill, refill units already locked in combat, instead of creating new reserve-units that could be used to outmaneuver Ukraine. As such, it is likely that the FSB regiment will also be broken up to refill depleted units on the frontline.

(6,674 posts)1. At one time, Russia was thought to have the 2nd best Army in the world.
Ukraine has reduced it to converting ceremonial, naval, and Air Force personnel for front line troops. Their mechanized infantry now relies on personal vehicles, motor bikes and donkeys for transport.

Chechnya 1999-2009; Georgia 2008; Syria 2015 - 2024; Ukraine 2013-2014; Ukraine 2022 to present.
I would think that takes on toll on the Russian population. Many Russians moved away to other countries and apparently Russian women are not popping out enough babies preferably males.
