Kazakhstan Plans to Double Its Economy by 2029 - Good Times Bad Times (The 20s Report)

In the first quarter of 2025, the Kazak economy grew by 6% year-on-year. This growth was driven primarily by significant recovery in the transport
and trade sectors. The National Bureau of Statistics of Kazakhstan announced in May 2025. This is a very solid even impressive result, particularly considering the conditions under which it was achieved.

Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country bordered to the north and west by the war-torn Russian Federation, to the east by mighty China. But first with its less developed regions and second with a China that experiencing increasing economic strain. Meanwhile, to the south, we have the four remaining poorly developed central Asian republics and further Taliban ruled Afghanistan or Iran, gripped by sanctions and recently militarily humiliated. Difficult neighborhood.

Despite this, Kazakhstan is emerging as the region's growth champion. The highest foreign direct investment in the region; construction and renovation of thousands of roads, railways and ports under the Nurlejo initiative and the middle corridor; and finally the raw material sector which
relies not only on oil, but also uranium of which Kazakhstan is the world's largest producer and this is a good starting position at a time when global nuclear energy is experiencing a renaissance all this makes the president of Kazakhstan want the country to double the size of its economy by 2029 to a level of $450 billion. Of course, there are some flies in the ointment. Nevertheless, let's check. Is Kazakhstan really the new economic oasis of Central Asia? Let's find out.
