Officials in the Gaza Strip said more than 100 people were killed and hundreds more injured in Gaza City on Thursday, accusing Israeli forces of opening fire on a crowd of people waiting for humanitarian aid. Israel said an unspecified number of the casualties were caused by a stampede as residents scrambled to reach a convoy of trucks. Israeli forces opened fire on members of the crowd who approached soldiers in a manner deemed threatening, according to Israeli officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. President Biden told reporters Thursday that he expected the incident would complicate negotiations over a hostage deal.

(41,348 posts)That is a lie.
Of course, waiting for more information and additional facts is too inconvenient. Its easier to believe statements from Hamas and Hamas controlled officials.
When the hundreds became thousands and things got out of hand, the tank commander decided to retreat to avoid harm to the thousands of Gazans that were there, Hagari says.
You can see how cautious they were when they were backing up. They were backing up securely, risking their own lives, not shooting at the mob, he continues.
The Israel Defense Forces operates according to the rules of engagement and international law. No IDF strike was conducted toward the aid convoy, Hagari says, amid claims by Hamas that 104 people were killed and hundreds more were wounded.
Other IDF sources confirmed that shots were fired at those threatening troops. That is not shooting people lined up for food.

Wonder what the balance of weaponry was.
What if this were an American city?

Aid organizations have issued stark warnings on the scale of hunger and deprivation among Gazas residents, suggesting that the enclave could be on the brink of a famine. The situation is particularly bleak among the 300,000 people remaining in northern Gaza, where aid organizations withdrew months ago. Last week, U.N. officials said that the volume of aid entering the strip has collapsed as Israeli airstrikes target the police officers who guard the convoys, exposing them to looting.
A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said the deaths were a serious incident and would be investigated.
We mourn the loss of innocent life and recognize the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where innocent Palestinians are just trying to feed their families, the spokesperson added.
To whom does one give the benefit of doubt in the fog of war here?

(38,481 posts)We have to take our cues from President Biden. He can't fight the war FOR Netanyahu, and he's stuck with Bibi's uncontrolled ground forces and unprotected humanitarian aid.
Do really you think the Biden military team hasn't thought of something we have?
At our level it does no good to flog this problem that no one has answers for.
