IDF court extends arrest of 8 soldiers accused of abusing Palestinian detainee
This is the headline from a July 31st report by The Times of Israel. 2 of the original 10 soldiers detained for questioning have been released and declared not to be "main" suspects. A right wing legal group, Honenu, has begun representing 4 of the soldiers being investigated for the repeated sodomy and near death of the Palestinian detainee. The legal group put out a statement saying their clients "acted in self defense". Back on July 29th The Times of Israel carried this quote from Justice Minister Yariv Levin I was shocked to see the difficult pictures of soldiers being arrested at Sde Teiman the way dangerous criminals are arrested, Levin said, arguing that the soldiers in question had been engaged in holy work and that their arrest was the result of a moral distortion that starts from the top, from judgments and decisions of the High Court.
I checked both Haaretz and The Times of Israel today, Sunday, to see if the detention of the 8 was extended again but found no stories.
