Related: About this forumI've been thinking about songs to play at my funeral & as a Femme Dyke
A 100% chance I will not hear them, but as a femme dyke I want a woman singing Willie Nelson only version of To All the Girls I've Loved Before

(252 posts)Lyrics of Long Way There by Little River Band
verse
People on their own are getting nowhere
I am on the road to see
If anything is anywhere and waiting, just for me
Every night I walk around the city
Seems like I′ll never know
That feeling of being together when I go
It's a long way there, a long way to where I′m going
It's a long way there, it's a long way to where I′m going
Hey everybody, don′t you feel that there's something
But you know in a moment it is gone
I live for the day when I can hear people saying
That they know, and they care for everyone
But I feel like I′ve been here for the whole of my life
Never knowing home (never knowing home)
It's a long, long way
It′s a long, long, long way there
I'm gonna keep on tryin′
I'm gonna keep on tryin', yeah
Keep on tryin′
I′m gonna keep on tryin', ah
Been away from home for such a long time
And got to know this town
But I don′t seem to matter much to anyone, who's around
Is there anybody around?
Every night I walk around the city
Seems like I′ll never know
The feeling of being together when I go
And it's a long way there, it′s a long way to where I'm going
And it's a long way there, it′s a long way to where I′m going
It's such a long way
Everybody knows it′s a long way there
Everybody knows it's a long way there
I know, I know it′s such a long, long way
Travelling around is gonna get me down I know, I know
It's such a long, long way
It′s such a long way there
outro
Hey everybody, yeah
Don't you feel that there's something? (Feel it, feel it)
Hey everybody, yeah
Now don′t you feel that there′s something in the air tonight
It's such a long, long, long way to go

(2,989 posts)loved morning all my life. When I have stayed up too late and or partied too hard I am angry that I wake up late and miss the early morning.
6:00 AM is my favorite get out of the bed time.

(2,118 posts)The refrain goes:
Will you please dance on my grave
With your bare feet on the ground
Will you turn the music way up loud
Will you please dance on my grave
The coda is especially poignant:
No procession
No depression
Only good thoughts
From you and my kin
No more crying
No goodbye-ing
Rejoice my past
Have a good stiff drink and
Kick your shoes off and
Please dance on my grave
With your bare feet on the ground (etc)
Probably not high on the traditional lgbt funereal playlist but worth a listen and, who knows, maybe just what your family and friends will need in that moment.

Haley Bonar - Quiet Breathing
Make my bed on a pallet of linen
Lay my head on a pillow of down
I close my eyes and see you
But in the morning, gone.
Rest my bones where the earth meets the heavens
Place my name on the things that you grow
Just close your eyes to find me
Save you a place where I go.

(15,672 posts)And am using a savings app that rounds up to the nearest dollar (or two, three, etc) when you buy something to pay for it. The program will have a quote from Cookie Monster and a cartoon, and the poem, "Ozymandias," in it. I'm thinking of having a merch table.
I have a lot of years ahead of me, but I'm at the age where sooner rather than later that I should get my affairs in order.

(134 posts)What I had for my husband: "Amazing Grace."
But WERE I to add a "Pop" song, it would be "The Last Thing On My Mind" by the Chad Mitchell Trio (mostly solo Mike Kobluk).

Laying in the light
Put out the fire in your head
And lay with me tonight

(38,206 posts)I have a list of songs on a private playlist on YouTube, but I doubt there will be a funeral or anything for me. I just listen to the playlist sometimes.
I just mostly wish I could make it so someone steps in and stops them from preaching over me while I am on my deathbed. I despise all the hateful stuff they say.
It was atrocious how they circled my aunt while she lay dying. They were like sharks in the water. And that was at the VA in Fayetteville, not a "Christian" hospital.
She couldn't even talk any more and while she was dying, her last day, that preacher bent over in her face on the bed and yelled, "Do you believe in God?!!!?" over and over again, until my stepdad told him that wasn't necessary.
My stepdad is older than me, so I don't know if I will be lucky enough for him to be alive when my time comes to do it for me too. He knows how much I hate that stuff. They force it on you in NC unless you have someone to stand up for you.
