Like demonizing "liberal", the people that make these sorts of memes are just trying to make "Feminist" a BAD THING to be.

I personally find it stupid and offensive, but I AM a Feminist and a Liberal (and an Atheist), so I'm pretty used to people trying to demonize a word that I identify with. I'm not going to stop using that word to describe myself just because someone else wants to make me seem like a bad person. I know I'm a good person... and I'm also a Feminist, a Liberal and an Atheist.

Crock of shit by some little weenie who wants to justify all the death threats he's been posting on Reddit and 4chan.

the amount of loaded language used in the red and in the green verbiage.

Query a thesaurus and re-write to substitute precisely descriptive words that are objectively neutral toward BOTH types of women. The final draft should be explicitly descriptive and readers should be completely incapable of identifying the writers attitude toward either woman individually and toward both women collectively as manifestations of our women's movement.

...you have just dumped in the feminist group on DU.

Sure some feminists are jerks. So are a lot of men's rights advocates. So are a fair number of people in general. So?

Enjoy your stay, asshole.

All I asked were for thoughts, never put any form of my own opinion in the post. I wanted to ask strong, intelligent women what their opinion on this was, but apparently this became a personal attack. I thought this was a place for insightful discussion...

13. You posted a piece of garbage...

...that is a slanted "comparison" which defines feminists in an inaccurate and degrading way. First it makes a split between women's rights activists and feminists, although in real life most women's rights activists are also feminists. Next it chooses one example from each of these supposedly separate groups, where one is a shining example of Good and the other is a (possible) example of Bad. Then it draws the conclusion that Feminists == Bad.

You did not state your own position on the so-called "meme". You posted it to the feminist group on DU for "discussion". You have about 100 posts so far, you cavalierly post a rotten piece of garbage for discussion, without contributing any thought of your own, and you think the rest of us should take you seriously and discuss it.

Please go ahead and explain why my reaction surprises you.

God forbid I posted this with none of my own bias to sway or piss people off. I wanted to collectively understand this from multiple sources, especially feminists. I wasn't sure what to make of it, so I went to a place where I thought it could be better explained by people who were't morons. According to you, I was wrong and should only turn to facebook friends. Please excuse me for trying to understand.

...so utterly insulting to anyone who call themselves feminists, that to post it here is akin to waving a red flag in front of a bull. Or in more modern terms, pure flamebait.

If you are actually confused by the "meme" you posted, then you are not very bright.

But I don't think that's what is really going on.

Just to spell it out for you: the "confusing" "meme" you posted is a slanted piece of garbage which packages its anti-feminist BS by presenting two examples of supposedly discrete groups (when the overlap between the two groups is high), by picking out a "good" example of a women's activist, and by making sure to find some feminist somewhere who did something bad (I don't know the story so can't comment on it), and then extrapolating that example to all feminists, in order to draw a spurious distinction between the two.

I won't respond again, because I've said what I wanted to say and there seems to be no getting through to you. I'll readily admit that my words were sharp and perhaps even out of line. For future reference, you probably could have alerted at least my first response and there's a good chance it would have been hidden.

From Ayaan Hirsi Ali's wiki page:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali.. (born 13 November 1969) is a Somali-Dutch feminist and atheist activist, writer and politician who is known for her views critical of Islam.

So the contrast of "women's rights activist" and "feminist" here is horseshit.

Moreover, the description of Adria Richards' actions is ridiculously slanted.
