You can sustain a health panic only so long before people just plain get tired of it.

Fortunately, the virus seems to be attenuating, meaning it's less deadly as it becomes more contagious.

I've been watching the patterns and so far the hardest hit counties are east coast ports of entry, especially NYC and Boston, plus counties with lower vax rates. The exception is Vermont, which might be having a delayed omicron outbreak, reportable but not terribly serious given their high vax rate. I hope that's the case.

because they've ensured the disease will be a mild one, at least in the absence of severe comorbidities.

I want it to be over, too. Masks are nasty here in the desert southwest when the heat goes to triple digits.

It's time for a few changes to occur. One is less testing, something that is happening as vaxed people with mild disease just stay home until the temperature, if there is one, is down. Another is realizing that the unvaxed people out there have made their choice and are on their own. If they want to risk death, fine. The majority are vaxed and seriously overwhelmed hospitals are ,ost likely a thing of the past. We've p[assed from the pandemic phase through the epidemic phase and into the endemic phase.

One thing they've found with omicron is that immunity to it is stronger and more long lasting than it was to the other variants after recovery from the illness.

Here's an article on how the immune system works after the initial spike in antibody production. Not much Medicalese, I promise: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00214-3 It's why the vaccines are preventing serious illness even after antibody titers have gone down.

and that the curve has started turning up again recently.

I like that technology, because it is not dependant on a selected source of samples--it's just a sampling of a whole population. Hard to segregate sewage.

My daughter who is an MD said I should go, it has been since October for my first booster.
No other reactions thankfully. Please folks, if it has been 4 months +, get your second booster. Who knows where this will be going.
