angry about them getting rid of mask mandates. My Mother is in a nursing home (we have always had to wear mask there since Covid started) and in the last week the cases have started going up again. She has dementia and they cant get her to wear a mask, so I worry she might get it. She has been fully vaccinated and boosted. She is 91 though. She and my Dad had Covid late summer of 2020. Unfortunately my Dad passed away late last summer from a stroke. I take drugs that suppress my immune system and now I dont know if I should visit her right now. They say we can, but we visit at our own risk. None of the people that work there have tested positive, so it must have been visitors that brought it in. Thanks for letting me rant.
Just wanted to add I have been vaccinated and boosted.

(5,655 posts)- especially given that so many in the NH have dementia & wont possibly keep that mask on!
I believe that this is all about the economy & elections coming up. Its certainly NOT about the welfare of the public!

(8,326 posts)live in a retirement community by herself. She doesn't drive so we order her groceries ever week, sometimes 2 and pickup and bring to her house. We are an hour drive away and have been doing this for about 5 years. We all have our shots and boosters (2). She has all kinds of age related issues and seemingly constant doctor visits.
We are both 72 so not young ourselves and beginning to feel it. I have been diagnosed with two different kinds of cancer and taken treatment and (knock on wood) have been NED (no evidence of disease) for 3 and 5 years so thankful.
Although we know she could go any day it seems like she might outlive us.....we have been very diligent trying to not cause any disease but her family (sister and her family) are constantly visiting (which we appreciate) most have already had COVID and although they finally got their vaccine they have the common attitude of living their life without restriction (which is prevalent in Texas) family get togethers, etc. and it is frustrating.
I can only say that I understand your situation - good luck. There is really only so much you can do and your concern is evidence you are doing your best.
That is my rant.....

I'm glad masks won't need to be worn outdoors, they get pretty miserable here in triple digit heat. I will avoid crowds and especially crowds indoors. I did have a breakthrough case in December (fucking smokers) and it wasn't bad, just a couple of days of symptoms and a third of feeling tired. The vax worked as advertised.
At some point, we're going to have to stop masking, although I'd still recommend it in crowds and especially in care homes.
