Shingles vaccine

I have avoided getting the shingles vaccine because of the cost. $300 plus per shot.

Just got a notification from my insurance company that on January 1, it will be covered!!

Was on the cusp of getting one soon. Wallmart has them for less btw

I had side effects but not a big deal.

You might even call the company and ask if they will cover immediately.

6. Get it as soon as you can!

I had a *slight* case of shingles on one side of my face a couple of years earlier than they say you could expect to have it. Believe me, the pain, the burning, the nerves... I wouldn't wish a full blown case of that on my worst enemy. As soon as I became eligible, I got the first shot, and then followed up with the second shot. Have never regretted it. Had no side effects other than what you usually have with an injection... sore arm, some tiredness. So totally worth it!!!!

8. When I got my first shingles shot about 10 or so years ago,

I thought there would be a serious enough co-pay to use up my medical set-aside (can't recall the correct word, but money taken out of my paycheck that I could then use for co-pays). At the time I worked for the local hospital, and had a pretty decent health care plan.

To my amazement, there was no co-pay for the shingles vaccine. Why you should have a $300 cost is a sad example of what's wrong with how health care stuff is paid for in this country.

More recently, I got the two-part Shingrix, and now that I'm on Medicare, with a Medicare Advantage Plan, no co-pay.

My younger son had shingles at the tender age of 20, and while his case wasn't too bad, it was scary to me that someone so young would get it.

9. I just got my first shot last week.

The cost was fully covered by my ACA marketplace plan. (Thanks, Obama!)

10. I got mine when I got my first COVID booster

The local pharmacy where I originally got the vaccine was booked, so I just walked in at Wal-Mart. And without me asking the pharmacist told me after checking my coverage that it would be fully covered by my insurance, so did I want it? I went for it and had no troubles. The pharmacist even made a point of letting me know how stupidly expensive it would be if my insurance wasn't paying for it. But I guess they'd rather pay for the vaccine than the results of not having it and getting shingles, which I guess says something about getting shingles.

11. I got my first one yesterday afternoon.

I was surprised my insurance from work covered it 100%.

Not feeling great today. Shoulder and upper back hurt, feverish, and just out of it. I think an afternoon nap is in my future. Hopefully these feelings will just be a one day thing like after the COVID shots.

12. The malaise only lasted thru Tuesday night. By Wednesday I felt fine.

Shoulder is still sore as of today, Friday, but getting better.
