Saw an article promoting it. Kind of what Ive been doing for the last few years.
After watching the Womens 10,000 meter race, thought Id go for 6 miles. Took my time and did it in close to 90 minutes. About 3 times what they ran it in. But, Im 74, about 3 times their age. Weigh 190 lbs, about twice their weight and have a pacemaker.
Found a great NP that lowered my blood pressure meds to the lowest possible and now Im no longer getting dizzy when I stand up. Took my pressure about an hour after my slow run and it was 116 over 64.
Feeling great.

Good luck with it

(4,919 posts)I used to run 15-minute miles but I'm doing 18 now. I'll turn 80 in Nov. I have a rack of 5K medals because the competition really thins out at my age. As long as I can do a 5K in under an hour, I'll do it. After an hour, they start rolling up the mats, lol.
Keep running!

Never ran in an organized 5K. Think I might try it this a thanksgiving. Ill be 75 then.
My joke when folks ask if I use to run when I was younger
.Only when I stole something.

(47 posts)Slow running is better than no running. I'm 62 now, getting much slower, but I still like running. And I loved watching the Olympic running events. Congratulations to you for getting out there and getting it done.

(34,057 posts)I know about depression and that led me to going back to college and a degree in Clinical Psychology.
Always learning. From watching those runners on tv, I noticed that they keep their heads up. I always have mine down. So I focused on keeping it up and it did help.

(2,640 posts)I have been running slow since the end of February. I have hated the idea of running since my army days, but I decided to try it and found that I actually really like it (probably because I'm not being timed anymore!).

(34,057 posts)The 3 MDs I saw didnt listen to me and my concerns about cognitive loss from the Orthostatic Hypotension when I stood up. Its like We are Cardio Docs and dont bother with Neurological aspect of health.
This NP listen to my concerns and used a more wholistic approach.
Ive been known to fire my doctors. They work for me, not the other way around. Just like auto mechanics, there are good ones, bad ones and everything in between.
