The fact is that when we shed pounds, we trigger mechanisms that make it hard to keep the weight off. Some factors are within our control, but many are not. Understanding how this works might make you look more kindly on your body.
Walking is good, but not when temps are in the high 90's. I miss my walks.

What's more, people tend to use exercise as an excuse to let themselves eat more. When that happens, they tend to eat more calories as a "reward" than they burned off at the gym. Or they might compensate by crashing out on the sofa and moving less the rest of their day.

(355 posts)But I lost 40 pounds in less then year while still being able to eat varied and yummie. In Belgium a geriatric md designed the food hourglass as a change to the well known food triangle. After that, somebody who goes by the name of Pascale Naessens deviced a series of recipe books and they work to a charm.

my son followed it after he dropped out of hs and spent 5 yrs sitting on my couch, gaining weight. he was about 50lbs over, and depressed.
it gave him the discipline to conquer his sleep issues, too. changed his life.

(in the form of high fructose corn syrup)
Eat mostly plants is self evident.
Try to follow the GBOMBS acronym.
Grains, Greens, Berries,Onions,Mushrooms,Beans and Seeds
Not too much.
Don't go wild with this way of eating or you will not loose weight.
Try to eat foods that are under 500 calorie per pound. For example, potatoes are 400 cal/lb. Thats like six large potatoes etc

(71,786 posts)live sauerkraut and kimchi. it was boring. he ate pretty much the same thing every day for 6 mos. but
exercise is important, too. he started out by running stair laps at the house, and pull ups in the plum tree.
got off his butt, got back in school. living his best life in utah, w his nerd tribe, biking and climbing rocks.
