Hi folks,
I just wanted to give a short update on this issue that plagues so many of us elders. I finally found a PCP who has solved this years-long problem for me without the dreaded digging out my ears or irrigating my ears, which, by the way, can cause ear damage if done by someone who doesn't know what they're doing, which seems to be almost everyone who is doing it.
It's been about a year since my PCP gave me this simple solution and my hearing is amazing. Talk about improving the quality of a person's life. Anyway, for those who may need it, here is the solution:
1.Mix together equal parts white vinegar and alcohol in a small bottle.
2. Using a small eye dropper, place two to three drops into each ear
3. Do this three times a week. (This works best for me)
4 Alternate regimen: 1 drop in each ear daily.
Wishing us all better hearing!

(16,361 posts)Millions of people experience tinnitus in different degrees, some are louder than others. Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present. While it is commonly referred to as ringing in the ears, tinnitus can manifest many different perceptions of sound, including buzzing, hissing, whistling, swooshing, and clicking. For some, it can lead to insomnia, difficulty with concentration, poor work or school performance, irritability, anxiety, and depression.

(25,163 posts)I put drops in then use the bubble with a snout at the end and flush out my ears with water.
It too can be painful if not done right.
The alcohol you use, is it Isopropyl alcohol? I'm going to try your doctor's remedy.

(2,527 posts)Thanks! I had a guy poke around in there with a sharp metal instrument at the ENT place and it made me VERY nervous. It was painful and he seemed to enjoy that aspect of it.

One ear lavage that I had dissolved into giggles for myself and the doctor as she suggested that I "name it" --meaning the cerumen plug--because it came out of me. (Sorry if that's gross but I did use the word, "cerumen", in an effort to make it less so. )
