Does anyone understand the relationship between Google Play and Acorn-tv?

I resubscribed to Acorn-tv with the intention of seeing the Doc Martin series. Problem is that they won't let me see the episodes beyond series 9. So I did some digging, using my computer to sign into the streaming service to determine what's going on. Still can't figure it out. It says I resubscribed through Google play. What does that even mean?

We watch it with our Firestick, and purchased it via Amazon using my Amazon Prime account, so Acorn TV (I thought) was an add-on channel via Prime.

So for you to figure this out, I have a few questions:

How do you watch it? (Smart TV? Firestick? some other ?)

If you paid for it using Google Play, then it might just need you to log onto Acorn-TV using your Google Play account (if you can select that when prompted to log in).

I signed into Google Play and it doesn't even offer Doc Martin on a search.

I think I'm going to remove Acorn and reinstall.
