For those who've seen it, I have a question about what actually happened.

The way I interpreted the film is Jim Gaffigan's character was dying. And the whole rest of the movie was basically his life, plus some distorted views of what actually occurred. Is that how you saw it?

If you think about it the way that reviewer did, then the asshole neighbor is his gentle scientist father in the past. But I just don’t see his gentle scientist father ever being such a bigoted sadist. I think I’m just going to try to let it go.
