Apple TV+ has three of the best shows on air right now
Apple TV+ has long sought to distinguish itself with a quality over quantity approach. And for the most part, its succeeded. There are a lot of fantastic shows and award-worthy movies offered by Apple.
In most cases, though, Apples limited roster of offerings means there will only ever be 1, maybe 2 great shows airing at a time.
Personally, if theres one top-tier show airing on a streamer, Im likely to keep my subscription. Ive done this plenty of times with HBO. All thats needed is one great show to win me overlike The Last of Us or House of the Dragon.
Currently, Apple TV+ has not one but three fantastic shows all airing at once.
Bad Monkey
Slow Horses
Pachinko
And importantly, they each offer an entirely different flavor of TV pleasure.

I'm passing on Bad Monkey. I don't like Vince Vaughn, and it just doesn't look like my kind of show.
I LOOOOOOOOOOVE Slow Horses!!! Highly Recommended!!!
Pachinko is on my "will watch" list, but I need to finish some other shows first.
Most importantly: BAD SISTERS will return to Apple NEXT MONTH!!!!!

(27,889 posts)but Im a big fan of Carl Hiaasen.
Slow Horses is amazing. Ill have to rewatch the first season of Pachinko before I start season 2. Even though I read the book, its been too long ago for me to remember much.

(3,489 posts)I really enjoyed season 1, so I have high hopes the second season is just as good. Love Harrison Ford and Brett Goldstein joins the cast in a character opposite of Ted Lassos Roy Kent.

(7,889 posts)and was coming here to seek suggestions. I already knew I wanted to see Severence and Shrinking, so am happy to hear about other recs for my 7 day binge-fest.

I like to watch the first 5-10 mins of shows as I add them, so they'll come up in my "Continue Watching" list, and I did that with several titles tonight.
But then, while adding "Disclaimer" I could not stop. It seems to only be a two-parter and I've just begun the second one and it's 2:30am and I won't sleep tonight until I finish it. So....yeah, I'm gonna recommend it, highly. Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.
ETA: oh no! So Apple+ does the dribble release...?! Like an episode per week? There must be more episodes, although it felt like it could have been done in two, but who knows what's coming. Ugh.
ETA2:.Gah, I guess I'm stuck now. It's 7 episodes so a free week won't cover it. That's how they get ya huh.

(27,892 posts)Yes, Apple does the "episode per week" like old-fashioned tv!!
Personally, I found I'm happy with Apple+ and I dropped Netflix.
If "Stranger Things" ever comes back, I might pick it up again.
Otherwise, I haven't missed it.

(2,368 posts)It ranks as one of the highest quality shows I've ever had the pleasure (and pain) of watching.
The opening credits to season 1 are so, so good - and on a side note: the only show that I never skipped the opening credits. In the backstory to those credits, with real historical photos interspersed with the various actors dancing in a pachinko hall, the creators wanted a vibrant, exuberant counterpoint to the often painful storyline.
I haven't watched season 2 yet.
Suggestion: Set your TV to Korean for audio and English for CC for the best viewing experience. Much better than the dubbed English for scenes where there's Korean dialogue.

(4,894 posts)I think hes kind of an asshole plus he identifies as a libertarian though he denies being a trumper. That said, Ill grudgingly admit hes very good in Bad Monkey. The writing is good with a lot of great one liners that Vaughn delivers well.
Im a huge fan of Carl Hiassen. He was writing about Florida Man long before it was a thing. His humor fits mine like a puzzle piece. Plus I grew up in Miami reading Carl Hiassen who was a Miami Herald columnist, and spent a fair amount of time in the Keys.
Also Slow Horses is extraordinary. One of the best shows of all time.
Here's a review of Bad Monkey if you're interested:

(27,892 posts)I'm so excited!!
I'm also embarrassed: I did NOT recognize Hugo Weaving AT ALL, until I read that he was in this season!!
He is so good! He just disappears into his characters!!

(4,894 posts)Though waiting nearly a year for s5 is no fun.
Hugo Weaving? River's father! Who knew?

(7,889 posts)and am enjoying it tremendously. I'm on episode 8 (of 10) and it seems to be just one season (I hope!)
After this, I see the next 2 episodes of "Disclaimer" has dropped, so that's the rest of my evening.
