Unrecommendation - Comedians of the World on Netflix

With a caveat, i have not stopped watching just because it is so bad. There are 13 half hour shows and I'm 4 in. Comedian 1, funny, 2, 3, 4 horrible. I have a feelimg I'll watch them all because the foreign ones will be coming up i presume, and I'm curious about them. #2 was a serious #2 and can't imagine anyone paying to see him, but it was so bad it was like the pleasure from a bad movie.

1. I used to hang out at the NYC comedy clubs way back when, and, yeah...

a lot of the comics were pretty dreadful. Many dreams slaughtered on those stages. But, I also saw Leno, Andy Kaufmann, and a whole bunch of others before anyone knew who they were.

To be fair, comedy is incredibly difficult-- it's tough enough to get decent material, but then reading your audience and adapting is a fine art. It took guts to stand up there. Even more to get up there the second time.

2. Loved Leno when he was on Dave

Leno seemed to be so bland when he took over the Tonight Show, still some funny monologues, but no edge I realize these comics work for years to get a tight ten, but these on this show are supposedly professional comics. A half hour is a very long set. Maybe it is just a cheap Netflix production to give the artists exposure.

Kaufman had to be quite an experience back in the day, he was a true maverick.

As the saying goes, dying is easy, comedy is hard.

3. Got to check out Mrs. Maisel soon, but...

I will never forget Andy Kaufman.

It was at a small club in Queens called the Metro and this guy we never heard of got up on stage and played a record of the Mighty Mouse theme. That was it. He did a few bits of business and then went into a crying jag about how he was not meant for the business and this was his last appearance.

To this day I have no idea how he did it (maybe dark wizardry) but after a few minutes of this he had us laughing hysterically, and we didn't know why. The more we laughed, the more he went on about how we weren't taking him seriously, and we laughed harder.

It was one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen on stage.

4. I remember the Mighty Mouse bit

Didn't see him do it in person, but on some tv show. Just him lip-syncing to the theme. Such a crazy thing to do but I've never forgotten it.

I just recall thinking something was going to happen, or he would do/say something, but he just kept lip-syncing the song the whole way through. Crazy!

like few others have.

5. Try "Brian Regan's "Stand Up and Away," also on Netflix

Episode One had some of the funniest bits I've ever seen.

I thought it was among the unfunniest things I've ever seen. Could just barely finish it.

I watch a lot of stand up comedy (and have my favorites), but will never understand why Jerry Seinfeld is considered funny.

Neither is Larry David. Now I find Demitri Martin pretty amusing.

The one prior to his latest was exceptional, very different.
