Good mantra for the rough spots
"May I be filled with loving kindness;
May I be well.
May I be peaceful and at ease;
May I be happy."
(credit: copied from an old 90's mindful meditation book, don't recall author - perhaps Sharon Salzberg)
Suggestions: Repeat as needed when the shit hits the fan. Print and keep a copy at your desk, beside your bed and in your wallet or purse. This is one of several that helped me stay sober through my early years in recovery while traveling across the U.S. on difficult field service jobs.
Another one for returning my feet to the ground and as a basic show of gratitude:
"Praise Earth from whom all blessings flow"
(a line stolen and modified from an old Baptist religious song called the Benediction)
Note: The Earth became my recovery Higher Power after several years of resisting a return to that ole-time religion of my youth, LOL. The old timers said to choose something more powerful than me as my HP, so what better choice than the planet on which we exist and totally depend on?
I also use a modified version of The Serenity Prayer.
